JuJitsu in its original form is unique among the martial arts in its effectiveness, simplicity, and full range of techniques. The art of JuJitsu excels in Self-Protection and Self-Defense . It depends on skill and technique rather than strength and speed. JuJitsu provides a lifetime recreational opportunity that can be practiced by any individual, regardless of size, age, physical condition or handicap. Students learn Escapes Holds, Chokes, Throws, Weapons Techniques, Striking, Kicking, Kata, Rolling and Falling, as well as Healing Techniques and Restorative Massage.
The Mizzou JuJitsu KoDenKai martial arts club teaches the system of JuJitsu known as "DanZan Ryu of the KoDenKan" . This system was introduced to the Hawaiian Islands by Japanese born Prof. Henry S. Okazaki, in 1922. DanZan Ryu is one of the most comprehensive and widely taught styles of JuJitsu in the United States. It teaches all of the deeper elements of what is known now as Karate, Aikido, Judo, and Ninjitsu. It is a Complete system and includes participation in Judo Competition as well as JuJitsu A.A.U. Free Style and Kata Competition.
The study of Ki, Kiai, Meditation, and Restorative Massage are essential to the system. The advanced studies of Ki in our system can exceed most efforts of many other martial arts, even those directly related to JuJitsu. Ki is an intricate and important element in all DanZan Ryu JuJitsu Yawara, Throwing, Grappling, and Striking arts. There are over 150 basic techniques up to Black Belt and over 150 arts to learn after Black Belt.
